Self kindness to lose weight is key. Self criticism, self bullying and negative self-talk will always destroy a weight loss journey. If these are things you do – being critical of yourself, hard on yourself, putting yourself down, negative self talk – this is why you are stuck in your weight loss journey.

Lack of self compassion and beating themselves upset is what I have seen many of my clients doing when they began working with me. Most of them didn’t realize they are being a bully to themselves and how it was impacting their behaviors with nutrition and exercise.

Self kindness to lose weight is key and exactly why I have an entire lesson with my weight loss clients to coach them on their beliefs and how they treat themselves.

When my client Sarah came to work with me at the beginning of 2024, she was in an unhealthy place mentally and physically.

She had been chronically dieting since she was 14. Not only was her body in an unhealthy place from dieting too much, but she was also mentally shaming herself, making herself feel guilty and trying to be strict which was only making things worse.

Sarah was stuck and had an unhealthy relationship with food and her body because of how she was mistreating herself. But she didn’t understand why until she signed up for weight loss coaching.

Sarah shares in this podcast episode how her negativity toward herself was a large part of what she had to unlearn in coaching to be successful and come to a place of peace with food, the scale and her body.

Sarah’s story is representative of many of the midlife women I work with because the issues with food are really not about the food.

In addition to the self-kindness Sarah learned in her journey, she discusses how she learned she was focusing on things that were unnecessary for fat loss. Now she is empowered with the right tools, the right knowledge and the right mindset to keep her healthy habits long-term.
