Self Compassion To Lose Weight: Desiree's Transformation

Published: Sep 20, 2022 · Modified: Sep 16, 2022 by Megan

I always share on my podcast how self compassion is the key to lasting weight loss. Self compassion is part of what I call mindset.

When my client Desiree came to work with me in my 6-month coaching program, Desiree thought her weight loss was just about food. She thought her overeating, stress eating and emotional eating was as simple as stopping the behavior.

Desiree learned quickly that it's not as simple as telling yourself to stop a behavior. Telling yourself to stop is actually beating yourself up. I spoke about this notion of beating yourself up in a previous podcast episode and I truly believe it is the number one thing standing in the way of women achieving their health goals permanently.

During our coaching, my client Desiree learned the importance of self compassion to lose weight and that her overeating really wasn't about the food. Her being out of control with food was actually a symptom.

She shares in this podcast episode how when we began working together how she really wanted me to tell her the exact rules to follow with food and how she struggled with her mindset (all or nothing). In fact, I told her from the beginning of our time together that I didn't care if she stress ate. I just wanted her to write it down in her food journal.

The crazy thing she describes in the podcast is how her stress snacking and overeating naturally went away as we coached her on her mindset and this concept of self compassion. She learned to find other ways to deal with stress outside of food.

Desiree thought weight loss was about food. She learned self compassion to lose weight and that her overeating really wasn't about the food.

Desiree also shares that she learned her body wasn't against her which I love! Her body was simply trying to take care of her and she didn't recognize that before our work together. Instead she was fighting her body and mind so hard that it was backfiring on her.

Now Desiree has an entirely different mindset around food, her relationship with her self and how she deals with stress. She's more compassionate towards herself with the grief and stress she's experienced in life and has learned how to ask for support from others. Something she wasn't doing prior to us working together.

Not only did Desiree lose 5 inches around her waist during our time together, she gained so much self compassion and appreciation for herself. Something I wish every woman would learn to do for themselves because once you do that, losing weight is so much easier.

Oh yeah... and Desiree has 9 children! There was never a time during a coaching when one of her children was sick, in an accident or she was going out of town for one of their events.

She learned self compassion to lose weight and transformed while caring for her 9 children and working. If Desiree can transform herself, so can every woman out there!

You simply have to be ready to change and dive into your mindset to see what is happening behind the scenes. Because overeating is never about the food. I hope you enjoy this client podcast episode. It's really truly amazing to see my clients transform and I hope it inspires you!
