Has anyone told you lately how amazing and incredible you are?
I recently read about Operation Beautiful on another blog I read Healthy Tipping Point. The woman who writes this blog started Operation Beautiful when she began leaving positive messages on the mirrors of public restrooms. Messages like “you are incredible” or “you are amazing.” Her was to end negative self-talk or as she calls it, “fat talk.” The way it works is you post anonymous notes in public places for other people to read and find. You can also then take a picture and submit to Operation Beautiful for them to post on their blog. Amazing, right?
I am inspired by Operation Beautiful. Too many women lack self-confidence and have negative body image. Society has put so much pressure to look a certain way. When I think back to before I lost I lost 80 pounds (now almost 4 years ago), I didn’t feel self-worth and that came from negative body image. Sure, I had a few pounds to lose, but I wasn't obese. I was an average size woman, but because of that I had not motivation to lose weight or take care of my health. I didn’t love myself the way I do know & see how important I am to myself and to this world. The result was I didn’t make my health and body a priority. Unfortunately, I think many women can relate to this.
The truth is ALL women are beautiful and WORTH personal investment.
A few weeks ago, Healthy Tipping Point was offering a Headbands of Hope giveaway. Headbands of Hope was created by a college student named Jessica. For every headband purchased, the organization donates a headband to a girl who has lost her hair after cancer treatment. The headbands have some of the inspirational messages on them from the post it notes collected. They are no longer making the headbands, but were giving away 3. For the giveaway, they requested participants tweet what they're doing this year to take care of themselves. I tweeted “I’m eating organic & local this year.” I never imagined I would be chosen to win, but I was wrong. The other day I received a tweet that I was being awarded one! I am so touched to be receiving one!
Yesterday I left my Mom this note on the bathroom mirror in spirit of Operation Beautiful. She’s been visiting me in Arizona since December. She was supposed to leave a few weeks ago, but stayed longer due to my foot injury. She’s helped me so much these last few weeks and I just wanted her to know how much I love her. I also sent the picture to Operation Beautiful email. They collect the pictures and post them. Every picture sent is posted on their website. Keep an eye out for mine!
My challenge for you is to do an Operation Beautiful. Write a message, place it in a public place, take a picture and post it on my blog.
