Time for some truth friends! A few years ago, I wouldn't eat an avocado if you paid me. Yep! I know it's mind-blowing to believe. I'm sure you're scratching your head wondering how can someone who's a nutritionist, lost 80 pounds and runs a healthy recipe website could possible not like avocados?
Well...here's the thing.
Not everyone has to like every healthy food. You don't start eating healthy and immediately fall in LOVE with all the healthy food. It takes time for your taste buds to change!
I didn't grow up eating vegetables and avocados. It's taken a lot of trial and error for me to like these things. Sometimes they're not delicious on the first try, second try or even third. You just have to stick with it!
What really has to change is your expectation about healthy eating and the length of time it takes to transform your taste buds to adjust to something you're not used to eating. This is especially true if you're eating a lot of processed foods.
I actually did a Facebook video on the topic of healthy food tasting bad last week so if you want to hear the rest of what I have to say about this topic, or if you want to see my crazy hair click HERE.
As I was saying, I didn't love guacamole until a few months ago. It was a dessert recipe that got me eating more of it, and then one thing lead to another and suddenly I was putting avocado on everything. It's like a tango, only in the form of salsa. Okay, so sometimes I think I'm funny and I'm not.
Chicken Guacamole Burgers
But these chicken guacamole burgers... holly cow they are so good! The avocado is nicely hidden in them with salsa and seasonings so picky eaters can't detect it. Juicy, hearty and so much flavor in these low carb burgers!
Avocado is the perfect compliment to ground chicken. Not only does it add flavor to the burgers, but it also adds healthy fat! Something a lean ground meat like chicken needs to make it juicy and delicious. You won't be disappointed!
What You Need
- Ground chicken
- Avocado
- Salsa
- Cumin
- Red pepper flakes
- Salt and pepper to taste
Helpful Tips
Ground turkey can be substituted for the ground chicken. I personally prefer the ground chicken. I would not recommend using ground beef as the fat content would be too high. Fat is healthy, but the amount of dietary fat still needs to be kept in check.
To make the burgers, I highly recommend an electric non-stick grill like this one. It cooks the chicken guacamole burgers perfectly! If you do cook them on the grill, spray with coconut oil spray to prevent from sticking to the grill.
Now grab your avocados because you're about to become obsessed over these tender, juicy chicken guacamole burgers!

I made these tonight! So fantastic!!! I ate mine over a handful of spinach with some extra salsa. Wow! All my picky eaters ate it too (I wouldn't tell them what the "green" was until dinner was over though)!
That's awesome! So glad to hear that.

And, I would like to recommend your Jalapeno lime chicken to anyone reading this. I make it last night for Lynne and I and it was delicious!!
I just didn't have time to make the salsa you have in that recipe, as I was stuck in a traffic jam coming home from work, But I'm definitely on it next time. Thank you! 😀
YEAH! I'm so glad you guys liked it. That just made my day. Thanks Neil!
These look delicious and now I am super hungry. Can you send me some?
Only if you sing me a slurpy song. 🙂
I actually love chicken burgers -- way more than beef burgers! This zesty version looks great -- you can never go wrong with some guacamole!
Same here Blair! They're so juicy.
our taste buds definitely adapt with healthy foods and then we start to really crave them! it's why God gave them to us! Yes! gimme some gauc for that and praise god! haha
Amen! Praise God for finally letting me like avocados too.
IN my mind, salsa and guac should be a side option for life. At every meal, just about. Love that you incorporated the ingredients but let them be chunky!
You're talking my language lady!
