Sugar Free Banana Bread with Coconut Flour is seriously THE BEST.
After making this popular healthy banana bread version last year, I had a lot of requests for a coconut flour version.
This healthy version is naturally sweetened with JUST BANANAS, has protein and fiber and has just 100 calories per slice.
Easy to make with just a few staple ingredients from your pantry.
A yummy coconut flour banana bread recipe that will definitely be a hit in your house!
Is Banana Bread Is Healthy?
Traditional banana breads are made with a lot more sugar, oil and chocolate making it more of a treat than a dietary staple.
While I believe all foods can fit in a balanced diet, I also believe that when we can make healthier choices and adjustments to improve the quality of our food and balanced recipes better we should do that.
Sugar free banana bread I'm sharing with you today is a healthier option than traditional banana bread recipes!
- Lower Calorie - This recipe has only 100 calories per slice and is filling and delicious. Omitting the sugar and using the natural sugar from the bananas helps with this along with swapping the oil for heart healthy almond butter.
- Lower Fat - There is just 6 grams of total fat in this recipe and only 2 grams of saturated fat. This was done by using almond butter instead of oil like traditional recipes use.
- Higher Protein - There's 3 grams of protein per slice. Protein helps to stabilize blood sugar and keep you fuller longer.
- Higher Fiber - There's 3 grams of fiber per slice from the coconut flour. Fiber is an important nutrient that most are deficient in and keeps you fuller longer too.
- Lower Sugar - Since no sugar has been added to this recipe, it's much lower sugar. The only sugar is naturally occurring which is balanced with vital vitamins and minerals.

How To Store Coconut Banana Bread
- Refrigerator - I recommend keeping banana bread in the refrigerator in an airtight container up to 7 days. While you can keep it at room temperature in a container, it will lose its freshness after 2-3 days.
- Freezer - You can freeze banana bread. I recommend no longer than 60 days in the freezer. You can wrap it in plastic wrap, keep it in a plastic storage container or regular container. When you're ready to enjoy your banana bread, remove it from the freezer to thaw the night before in the refrigerator.
How To Make The BEST Banana Bread Without Sugar
For the tastiest results, use VERY RIPE bananas. They should be brown and spotty or black because as bananas ripen they get sweeter.
You can use yellow bananas in this recipe too. You will need to add some sugar to the recipe to give it more flavor when using yellow bananas.
Baking Banana Bread Frequently Asked Questions

Banana bread will get soggy after baking. I do not recommend adding more flour as the bread will be dry and less flavorful.
How Ripe Should My Bananas Be For Banana Bread?
Bananas should be brown and spotty or black to make banana bread.
Also, if you use bananas that are yellow, the bread will not be as flavorful or as moist. As long as your bananas are not green, you can use them in banana bread recipes.

Nut butter can be used in place of oil in banana bread recipe. This recipe does this!

Traditional banana bread is generally unhealthy. They have more calories, more fat content from oil and butter and more sugar from added sugar.
Moreover, this coconut flour banana bread is a healthier option!
Can You Eat Banana Bread & Lose Weight?
You can definitely eat banana bread and still lose weight. Weight loss requires a calorie deficit and a treat like banana bread can always be fit into those calories along with proper protein, fiber and other nutrients.
I tell my clients often that there are no good or bad foods. There's simply balance. All foods can be included in a balanced diet.
Substitutions For Coconut Flour Banana Bread
Here are the swaps you can make with this low calorie coconut banana bread.
Additionally, remember when you make substitutions with recipes that it does change the nutritional values from what you see in the recipe card below.
- Bananas - This would not be a banana bread recipe without the bananas. I do not recommend swapping them or substituting with something like applesauce or avocado. The consistency or flavor will not be the same especially with the coconut flour.
- Eggs - Because this recipe uses coconut flour, I do not recommend eliminating the eggs for an egg replacer. Coconut flour requires the eggs to bind and without it I'm afraid the bread will fall apart. This healthy banana bread recipe uses a different flour and you could use an egg replacer with it.
- Almond Butter - Any creamy nut butter will work in this recipe. Peanut butter, cashew butter or tahini would be good swaps. Sunflower butter would work, however, the bread will turn green from the chemical reaction with baking soda.
- Vanilla Extract - Almond extract would be delicious as a replacement!
- Coconut Flour - Do not replace the coconut flour with another flour. Coconut flour is VERY particular and requires a unique set of measurements to work in baked goods. If you want to use a different flour, I recommend using this healthy banana bread recipe and swapping the flour in that recipe for something you prefer.
- More Sugar - You could add a touch of stevia or dry sugar to this recipe if you want a bread that's more sweeter. I used VERY RIPE bananas with this recipe so that no sugar was needed. I do not recommend adding a wet sugar like honey or maple syrup as the consistency will be off and the bread may not bake as expected then.
- Paleo - Be sure you use dairy-free chocolate chips if you want to make this Paleo compliant.

Erik Wilson says
Maybe I just missed something... it looks like a healthier banana bread but how can you say no sugar added if you are adding chocolate chips that contain cane sugar? I mean technically you aren't adding sugar, but your adding a product that contains added sugar right? Maybe use unsweetened cocoa to make a dairy free sugar free chocolate chip. I don't know cuz I have never looked for it but surely there is a unsweetened chocolate chip. I did this without the chips and used 1/4 cup stevia. All in all pretty good
