Feeling lazy in the afternoon? Follow these Healthy Ways To Beat The Afternoon Slumps!

Does this sound like you? You're powering through the morning, knocking items off your to-do list. You feel great! You've got everything under control, a solid handle on the day. You take a break for lunch, come back to your work and suddenly start feeling drowsy and unfocused.

So what's this all about? The body has a natural rhythm. In the afternoon, body temperatures lower causing melatonin to be released which makes you feel sleepy. Instead of reaching for a sugary snack, try one of these simple, healthy ways to beat those afternoon slumps!

Instead of reaching for a sugary snack, try one of these simple, 8 Healthy Ways To Beat The Afternoon Slumps!

Take A Walk

With our culture sitting for hours upon hours, most people are not getting enough basic movement in the day. A quick stroll around the office will be enough to raise your body temperature and wake you up.

Get Outside

Better yet, take your walk outside. Most people are lacking Vitamin D because they're indoors so much. Take a 10 minute walk, have conference call or eat your lunch outside. The sun will give you a refreshing boost of energy to power you through the last bit of the day.

Declutter

Take a few minutes to declutter your desk, erase unnecessary pictures from your phone or clean up your inbox. It sounds silly, but doing something mindless will revive you while making you feel productive at the same time!

Get Rosy

Keep a bundle of rosemary in your workspace. When you feel the afternoon slumps coming on, break off a piece, rub it between your hands and take in the scent. The aroma of rosemary is a natural energy boost. Your office buddies will thank you for this trick!

Text A Friend

Sometimes you just need a mental break. Take advantage of the afternoon slump to say hi to a friend and ask them how they're doing. Talking to them will give you a positive energy boost and restore your focus to get work done.

Teach A Class

If your schedule allows, make time to do something active in the afternoon like teaching a class. Not only will it prevent you from getting the afternoon slumps but it will make you feel awesome about doing something for the greater good!

Have A Healthy Snack

Before heading to the vending machine when the afternoon slump hits, treat yourself to a healthy snack of fruit, vegetables or raw nuts. The energy in the raw foods will provide a natural energy boost!

Drink Tea

TAZO Chai latte

A warm cup of comforting tea is a always guaranteed energy boost! A bit of caffeine even late in the day can be just what you need to get through the day.

Lately, I've been sipping on these NEW TAZO® Chai Latte K-Cup® pods. It's a creamy black tea made with milk, cinnamon, vanilla, ginger and cardamom.

TAZP Chai Latte

It's a spicy and sweet. Just how I like my tea! I brew a cup of TAZO® Chai Latte in the afternoon and it has been the perfect boost of energy for me to coach swim later in the day. Every time I take a sip, I feel like I'm taking a temporary escape to an exotic island. And I seriously need that escape before dealing with dozens of kids!

TAZO chai latte

TAZO® has partnered with New York Times Bestselling author and host Padma Lakshmi to celebrate the release of their new K-Cup® pods. Tea and chai have always been a part of Padma Lakshmi's life and family heritage.  She's excited to celebrate the flavors of chai with TAZO®. Read more about her partnership here. She has some good recipes you may want to check out too!

Great ideas! I had no idea about the rosemary. I usually talk a walk or just go to the gym. It's always mind-clearing and energizing!

Decluttering is a huge one for me too. I can't be productive in a messy/unorganized space. I also like to go for a walk with my pups. I always return with a little more energy than before.
