Cranberry Apple Detox Smoothie loaded with antioxidants! A smoothie made with foods that support the body in its natural detox. This thick and creamy pink smoothie makes the perfect healthy breakfast or snack! Gluten Free + Low Calorie + Vegan + Paleo
And just like that Thanksgiving's over. Who needs a detox from the food coma or are you still in a coma? If you do, you came to the right place today because I've got a Cranberry Apple Detox Smoothie to get you back on track!
So speaking of detox, I'm not sure if you noticed I took a little break from the blog last week. It was a much needed mental detox day. No Instagram, No Blog, No Email, No NADA.
Before the holidays I was feeling down in the dumps about blogging and unmotivated. Taking some time off was just what the doctor ordered. I think I need to take a mental day more often!
The only trade-off is my body didn't really get any time off because I'm pretty sure I've been eating nonstop for days. That's not entirely true, and I'm usually good about making healthy choices, but last week I was eating a lot of things I don't normally eat.
Between Thanksgiving at a friend's, a birthday night out with a friend {that solidified I'm getting old and can't party like a rockstar anymore}, baking cookies {coming soon!} and making Thanksgiving at home, I'm ready for a lighter food week. Maybe I should say my gut is.
I'm also sure some gluten was snuck in my food here and there. It's kind of maddening trying to avoid it when you're out which is why I don't go out that much. When I do, I just try to avoid it the best I can. Now that it's 18 months since I've been gluten free, I recognize when I've ingested some.
So this week is all about cleaning the body with my favorite health supplements. Probiotics, limiting inflammatory foods, increasing fiber, eating cranberry salmon and drinking cleansing smoothies like this Healthy Cranberry Smoothie.
Before we go any further, I need to tell you I don't like this word detox. It has been equated to weight loss and gotten a negative spin for all the short fix diets that never last. As you know, I believe in ditching the diet for weight loss. But back to this smoothie!
The body has an amazing ability to self regulate and naturally cleanse itself, but sometimes it needs a little extra support from supplements and food to do that especially as we age. Food is always the priority for making your body work best for you.
How does Cranberry Smoothie naturally detox?
- Unsweetened Cranberries - Help flush the kidneys, liver, lymphatic system from foreign bodies (xenobiotics) & dietary influences.
- Apples - A great source of soluble fiber. That sticky fiber binds to xenobiotics and ushers them out of the body through the digestive track which is why it's so important to get enough fiber not only for good digestion, but to get rid of those foreign bodies to keep your immune system healthy.
- Cinnamon - A natural antioxidant that protects the body from inflammation brought on from diet or environment.
Okay, so maybe that's too much nerdy nutrition talk for a Monday. Basically, you can think of this Cranberry Apple Detox Smoothie as a tasty, pretty in pink drink that comes with a big ole' bundle of health. Pretty food equals good health. Now drink up buttercup!

I'm loving all the cranberry recipes I'm seeing at the moment.
But I'm especially loving this cranberry smoothie Megan!
It's something I'll probably be looking for after the Christmas and New Year overdose! 😉
Pinned!

This smoothie has perfect timing! I went a little heavy on the pie this year and definitely need to detox before the next wave of festivities. What a perfect smoothie flavor 🙂

Happens to the best of us! Smoothie and greens always do the trick. 😉

This looks refreshing and delicious. And I totally agree -- a break from social media and blogging is a MUST for me on a regular basis. I really try to take time off on the weekends without worrying about any of that stuff. It makes the weekdays much happier!
Megan says
You are either super organized or disciplined to do that. Maybe both! I'm hoping once I'm done with school I can take back my weekends for rest.

We saw a hilarious add for Liver Aid Liver Detox and Alex immediately said, "So, this is a placebo and you just letting your liver do its thing?" Out bodies really do have an amazing ability to self regulate, so I don't think pills and such are going to help, but giving it a bit of a break? It will be thankful!
And, if we add a little booze to this, does that take away the detox aspect and make it a Cran Apple juice Cocktail? ;D
Megan says
Sometimes the pills do more harm than good especially if you're combining them with things you should not be which is why I tell my clients it's so important to see a medical professional before adding them. And I'm sure booze would go lovely with this. Perfect Xmas cocktail I'd say!
