Top Slim Down Tips From A Nutritionist
Need to be healthy to lose weight! Weight loss is a by-product of being healthy. Your body is designed to protect itself, not look good in a bikini. If you've been doing the same things for a while and not seeing results, it’s for a reason. Whether it’s a hormone imbalance, stress response, adaptive physiology, something is causing that.
Stop dieting! Anyone can lose weight, but not everyone can keep it off. 80% of people regain their weight loss. If there was a magic diet or pill, there would not be nutritionists or RD's to help people. Most people gain the weight back because the type of eating they do to lose weight isn’t sustainable long-term. Any diet can work for anybody, but it has to be something you can see yourself maintaining 1 year or more.
Know what foods are right for you. Just because a food is healthy, it doesn't mean it's right for you! Many foods are healthy, but there's more to weight loss like what you eat certain foods with and when you eat them that make a difference.
Measure everything! Portioning is key to slimming down. Carry measuring cups, tablespoons and teaspoons with you and measure, measure, measure! Most people overestimate when they eye-ball portions. Measuring can save you tons of calories as well as make you aware of what the right portions are for you.
Stop wasting calories on silly things. Fruit juice, coconut water, tonic, soda, Kombucha etc. while all healthy, have a ton of calories which add up quickly. So does mindless snacking. Taking a nibble of food here and adds up. Watch my videos on how to stop mindlessly snacking.
Do not restrict your diet. How many times has someone told you that you couldn’t do or eat something and then you wanted it more? It's our nature to automatically do it more. Will power will only last so long before you cave and binge. Watch the video for my tips on this!
Start flexible dieting. Macro counting is something I do in my group coaching. By counting macros, you're able to make more balanced decisions about your diet. If you have a night out, you can plan for a hamburger and fries by balancing the rest of your macros around it! Remember, one salad isn’t going to make you super healthy and one bad meal isn’t going to derail your weight. Gaining weight is just as gradual as losing weight. Be in it for the long haul!
