Welcome to Monday, more random thoughts and another delicious recipe! You may just want to jump to the ingredients of this recipe so you can make it then come back to read my ramblings. I won’t hold it against you. This one’s pretty amazing. If I do say so myself.

Now for a tibia fracture update. Last week I saw the doctor for a 4 week check up. The x-rays showed a lot of healing in there. Remember when I was worried it wasn’t fusing? That was a relief! P.S. I also had an ACL sprain with the accident. I didn’t even know you could sprain an ACL?

After revisiting the injuries, came the discussion that I need to stay on crutches another 8 weeks. I am told that due to the location of the fracture (right below the knee) putting weight on it too soon will cause it to compress.

I was also told that by week 8, I could start walking on it but the full 12 weeks is what “clinical studies” recommend. I expect to be walking sooner than what the clinical studies state because I am using a bone stimulator.

Somehow I went to the appointment feeling as if I had met a major milestone of 4 weeks and that I would be walking soon yet, I felt defeated. I expected the doctor to say I can put some weight on it, at least a few hours a day.

The thought of not walking for another 8 weeks then one day just letting go of the crutches and walking does not seem right for my body. I know it will be too shocking to have that sudden pressure on my bones.

My body needs to gradually get used to the weight. I also know from my previous injury that my bad hip will not work if I do not walk before 12 weeks. I

can’t even bear to think of the pain I’m going to have in that joint once I’m able to fully use it again. My doctor did not know how to respond to all that.

Unfortunately, doctors only look at one part of the body and treat it instead of looking at everything as a whole. Everything is about clinical studies, but those studies are isolated to one ailment.

I am seeing a hip surgeon later this week to find out if there’s something (noninvasive) that can be done to make the joint more stable. A weak tree trunk makes weak limbs.

Once I see the surgeon, I’ll have more knowledge and can about through the right path for me. I know I can only rely on doctors for the facts then it’s up to me to determine what to do with it.

You really have to be your own advocate in this mad web of health care.

For now, I’ll keep resting and feeding my body nutritious food to help it recover. This Mango Smoothie Chia Pudding was one my body sure did love.

I really wish I could share it with you right. Everyone deserves a taste, but since I cannot I ask you imagine I am handing you a spoonful of this goodness through the screen right now!

I feel like your my twin. We both have tibial stress fractures ( mine is healing- but I’m still not running or feeling myself) and I relate to every comment you put on my blog. Always nodding my head in agreement. Today I was unable to eat because of a TMJ flare up (yes, I know, I sound like a utter train wreak) what next? I hate even saying these things out loud! Anyway, I made a chocolate smoothie recipe with my Vega since I can’t chew right now.. so yummy and I now I want to make this– looks SO good! I love mango’s and putting it on top of chia pudding is brilliant.

I feel the same about us being twins. Everything you write I can relate to (sans kids). I feel like the world is sucking the life out of me. It feels chaotic. I want everything to stop. Cooking and working out is my escape. I think you reach a point when you have a choice. You either keep doing what you’re doing and accept it or make a change. Glad you’re putting the Vega to good use!
