As you read yesterday, my best friend had a mastectomy. It breaks my heart and soul that this wonderful, ever so unselfish woman has had to endure this. She inspires me every day with her never ending optimism, realism and strength. This poem is for you friend.

What A Real Friend Is

What a real friend is….a poem for a dear friend

A real friend loves you unconditionally through thick & thin

A real friend gets under your skin

A real friend is your unrelated twin

friends_sarah

A real friend is there at your best and your worst

A real friend rescues you when you’re submersed

A real friend sings karaoke with you like it’s rehearsed

Sarah & Megan

A real friend tells you when you’re right & when you’re wrong

A real friend sings you your favorite song

A real friend tells you “you are strong”

A real friend feels every bit of your pain

A real friend walks with you in the rain

A real friend toasts you champagne

A real friend tells you when you’re screwed

A real friend pushes your buttons until you’re unglued

A real friend proclaims you make the very best food

Sarah & Megan

A real friend tells you things you never knew

A real friend tells you when you smell like pew

A real friend laughs & cries with you

Sarah & Megan

A real friend makes you do a handstand in the sand

A real friend hugs you & holds your hand

A real friend shares special moments with you that no one can understand

I hope against hope that they are able to nip this in the bud for your friend. This is part of why I am doing the Bright Pink fundraising–education so that people will know to get checked and what their risk factors are is so very important.

    1. Megan says:

You are such an inspiration for doing that. It’s something I need to be reminded of for sure.
