Hi Friends!
How’s the week going? Hope you’re having a wonderful Wednesday!
Last weekend I was at fitness instructor training for Group Core. A few weeks back, I signed up for the Moosa certification training after my audition at the Y. I’ve been wanting to get back into group fitness, but work and travel has not given me that opportunity until now. Long-term I may want to do more personal training and this is a great way for me to test if this is something I want to do more of before investing the time and the money. I also think with the stuff going on with my leg I may be forced to do other fitness for awhile.
One thing I really like about Moosa is the format. The music is provided on a DVD and the sets are pre choreographed. All you have to do is memorize the new formats every quarter when they’re launched. The nice thing about the DVD is that it broken up in a way to help you memorize the songs. For someone like me who wants to instruct, but doesn’t have a lot of time this is great. As much as I love choreographing and creating playlists this offers me the flexibility to teach without adding more stress to my already crazy schedule.
I chose Group Core because it’s a 30 minute class and only 5 songs to memorize. For my first certification, I wanted to keep it simple. You have to submit a video of yourself teaching within 90 days of the training to get the official Moosa certification. I’m so not looking forward to that day. I’m sure I won’t be anywhere near as buff as these guys.
We completed the routine a few times, practiced memorizing the first song, discussed how the class is formatted, the approach to launches and partnered to practice cuing and leading. The instructor was hysterical. He had us laughing the entire time. I definitely would take another one of his classes in the future.
I also met an instructor from my Y. I haven’t met other instructors there yet. She teaches spin and wanted to know if I would be interested in subbing for her sometime, which is perfect because I love spin and already have a playlist ready to go from when I was injured and did spin everyday.
Overall, the class was very informative and a lot of fun. One thing about an all day fitness class though. You have to pack lots of snacks and it was a good thing I didn’t skimp because we did a ton of lunges.
Today I’m linking up with Peas and Crayons for another [What I Ate] Wednesday!
Breakfast. Before leaving for the Y, I make quick fried egg whites with spinach and all the berries. Simple, but oh so good.
Snack. Sublime Green Juice that I whipped up while the eggs were going and I was finished my coffee. When you’re on the run & don’t have time, juices really are awesome. I still get my nutrients, vitamins and minerals and quench my crazy thirst.
Lunch. Turkey sandwich on oarweat thins with mustard and you can’t see them, but a whole lot a sprouts.
Leftover slices of carrots. I made citrus carrot juice earlier in the week and had a few remnants leftover. I don’t know why I don’t eat raw carrots more. They really are so good.
A muffin. Glorious muffin. I made Blueberry Banana Oat Muffins last weekend and froze them. I knew I had a few busy weeks coming up and wanted them waiting for me. I’m so glad I did too. All that healthy goodness packed into this beauty just makes me happy.
Snack. An oh so sweet apple. Did you know I eat an apple every single day? Not because they say you should. Just because I like to. 🙂
Then I re-hydrated withCocogo cocnut water. I got samples at Blend, but hadn’t tried them yet because I really don’t love the flavor of coconut on it’s own. Surprisingly, the lemon-lime balanced the flavors really well and I actually liked this.
Dinner. Roasted cinnamon butternut squash salad with craisins and homemade orange maple dressing. This is by far my favorite salad and I just love anything squash.
Desert. Lemon Peach Frozen Yogurt with a side of blogging & email. This picture doesn’t do it justice, but this sweet treat is absolutely delicious and for only 100 calories I feel like I’m cheating.
Do you or have you taught fitness instructing? Have you ever had to film yourself instructing a class? What is advice do you have for instructing?

Do you have an omelette maker or something? Because that omelette looks PERFECT! And round!
Thanks! My secret for the perfect omelette is using a small single serve frying pan.
I’m a wee bit obsessed with raw carrots for some reason myself! I’d love to be a fitness instructor, if I had a double life and could fit more in my day! Now I need to check out those blueberry muffins…
I’m definitely squeezing it in my schedule. It’s tough!
Group exercise class is one of the things I miss most about having a gym membership! I especially loved body pump.
