It’s not big secret that I’m not loving my body right now. Being injured, recovering, whatever for 11 months (ugh..) has made me crazy and every day that passes I resent my body more for it. I don’t like the curves. Months of spinning lifted my glutes and now I’m swaging a muscular booty. My hips and legs stayed the same size. I feel like I look weird in pants & skirts. Thankfully last month I dropped a few pounds and they came out of the tush. It gave me hope my body will bounce back to where it was before this injury, if it is ever over. God help me survive the waiting.
Recently I’d been noticing some of the guys at my gym checking me out. I figured they were wondering about the current state of my injury. That’s my normal. People always asking what’s wrong with me now. I swear I’m gonna wear a white board around my neck with the latest status sharpied on it so I do not have to answer that question a thousand times a day.
One of the guys at my gym is a husky 6’5″ black guy, an ex pro-athlete. I call him the mayor because he’s always chatting with everyone and he’s nosy too. If you ever wanna know something about someone, he’s the one you go to. He’s a friendly, harmless guy (don’t get any ideas Mom).
Anyway last weekend the mayor & I are chatting and I’m telling him how I just wanna be my pre-injury self. You know, having myself a pity party. Then he says to me, “at least you have a nice ass now.” Me -> um, huh? He told me how his cliche of men are talking about my fit booty compared to the flat no-ass that I used to have. Seriously? What is it with men and butts? Butts are weird. Why not arms or back? I have hot arms and back.
Now I have to find a new gym now and wear more clothes. Just kidding…it doesn’t bother me in the least and I love the people at my gym. It’s actually quite the compliment and at 37, I’ll take it. Isn’t it crazy how other people see us differently than we see ourselves? Now that we know who’s checking out my booty, let’s check out my food.
Happy What I Ate Wednesday!
Breakfast. My quick and easy egg white omelette with a side of leftover spaghetti squash tomato and garlic pasta. I had tons of spaghetti squash pasta leftover from making lightened chicken parmesan. This was the best throw together combo ever. I’m really loving subbing spaghetti squash for pasta and having it for breakfast with eggs was the weirdest and best idea ever. Great way to get my veggies for the day.
Lunch. Low-sodium organic turkey and lettuce on my favorite wrap. I used to buy these in Salt Lake City at Whole Foods when I was working there a few years back. I could never find them in Arizona. The other day I saw them at my market and I squealed a little when I saw them. They’re delicious and a steal for the calories and healthy ingredients. I started reintroducing grains into my diet this last week after over a month of being grain free and so far so good. My stomach isn’t bloating like a prego lady. I discovered I don’t need many grains in my diet unless my activity is really high in which case I need the extra energy. I think I discovered what was causing the bloating, but that’s a post for another day.Dinner. Chipotle salad bowl with black beans, chicken, pico de gallo, hot sauce & tons of lettuce. My plan was to rest and not workout at all. My body was really sore from lifting upper body and swimming laps several days in a row. Those plans were hijacked when my ankle started feeling stiff by the afternoon. So I went for a late swim and when I was done I was starving. After that disappointing birthday lunch, I wanted to treat myself to a redux. I was craving salad big time and haven’t had Chipotle in forever. Only problem, I had to drive 15 minutes to get it. The one blocks from my house (literally I could walk to it, if I ever walk again) was jammed packed with a hockey game. I have no idea what I will do when the Super Bowl happens in 2015. Living this close to the stadium is gonna be interesting. I should probably move temporarily.
And with my meals, a side of steroids. I was conflicted about taking these, but with the amount of inflammation and pain I’m in I was left with no other choice and the dosage is low. Hopefully this works. See you back tomorrow for an injury recap and the details of what’s been happening.
Do you have cliches at your gym? Do you name people at your gym aka the mayor? If you could change one thing about your body, what would it be and why?
