Since it was my birthday last weekend, I thought I’d share with you guys some of the ways I treated myself over the weekend.
First up in the round of birthday treats, new Mizuno Wave Rider 18 running shoes. It’s been forever since I bought new workout shoes and my old ones have been showing it. One pair actually melted part of the heal in the summer when they were in my car while I was at work. It gets kinda hot here. Mizuno’s are by far my favorite running shoes. They’re light and airy yet my feet feel perfectly stable in them. Wave riders are a great neutral shoe if you’re looking for one. For the record, I bought mine on Amazon for $40 cheaper.
I started my morning with a pain-free power walk. I was finally able to get outdoors and not be trapped in the gym. I love the gym, but I love being outside more. It’s peaceful and the solitude is rejuvenating especially first thing in the morning. I don’t have to worry about color coordinating either. You’re probably wondering how this is a treat, but after months of injury it was for me. It was also important to me because every year I do a half marathon in Phoenix on my birthday. This year I wouldn’t have been able to do it with my still recovering from injury. When I heard it was canceled, I breathed a huge sigh of relief.
A friend at the gym, recommended I try doTerra Deep Blue for my ankle inflammation. doTerra makes therapeutic grade essential oils made with all natural ingredients. I met Ali, a doTerra representative this year at Blend so I emailed her and she hooked me up right away. I also got a few other oils, but the deep blue seems to be the one my ankle responds to. All you do is massage the oil into the muscle or joint that’s cranky and wait for the relief.
Finally New Weight Lifting Gloves. My old ones were literally falling apart and they were discontinued. It took me forever to find a replacement I could live with. Thanks to Amazon Prime I had these in two days with free shipping. Best membership ever. It’s so worth your money.
BCBG Sofia Jacquard Skirt. It finally got cooler in Phoenix this weekend. But now I have nothing to wear. Well I have things to wear but cycling all those months gave me a booty. Now I need something to cover it up until my body goes back to where it was pre-injury, which thankfully it’s starting to do already. This week my body changed and I was comfortable enough to wear a few things. I’m probably over reacting because everything fits. I just don’t like the way it looks on me. My shape is not what I’m used to and I don’t like change.
I also treated myself to an afternoon of writing solitude. Just me, my music, MAC and a mint tea hanging out at Starbucks for hours. It reminded me of my college days and I liked it which feels now like forever ago. Lately I’ve had serious writer’s block and lack of focus. I needed a change of scenery so I forced myself out of the house to could get in the zone and do what I love most. Write.
I also treated myself to a much needed pedicure. I’ve avoided them because my injury caused 3 toenails to fall out likely from nerve damage, hence the post injury stuff I’m going through now. I didn’t see the point in spending money on pedicures until they grew back which they did. Note how swollen my right ankle is compared to the left and it was actually not that bad this day.
How do you treat yourself on your birthday? Do you ever have to relocate to somewhere new for writer’s block? If so, where to?
Today I’m linking up with Becky at Olives n Wine for Treat Yourself Tuesday
