Hi, friends! I'm back with another edition of This Is Life where I recap a full day in the life. It's meant to show you what I do and eat on a daily basis. This recap is from last Friday!
4:30 a.m. - Alarm goes off. I wake up with a horrible sinus headache, but drag myself out of bed to swim.
5:00 a.m. - Arrived at the gym and the pool's closed cuz it looks like a swap. I went to the locker room to change out of my suit into my workout clothes.
5:15 a.m. - Jumped on the spin bike for 20 minute warm-up. I wasn't sure whether it was a good idea because my left knee/tibia had been swollen since I taught spin Monday {more on this below}. I realized I could bike in the saddle at a low resistance just not out of the saddle. The motion felt really good.
5:35 a.m. - Did upper body circuit with banded glute activation work. I know beyond a doubt this new injury is a result of not activating my glutes.
6:55 a.m. - Left the gym for home. I realize I have a cold. I'm sneezing, coughing and have a sore throat.
7:15 a.m. - Home. Warmed up breakfast pizza {recipe coming next week} and 4-ingredient protein pancakes for breakfast.
Also, had my usual black coffee with collagen and almond milk.
7:30 a.m. - Read blogs and check email as I eat. The guy calls to tell me Whip It's on the radio and sings it to me. And he thinks I'm goofy???
8:15 a.m. - Shower and get ready to leave for my photoshoot. Finally getting real professional pictures for my website and business. Long time coming! Now I need to work on giving the blog a facelift.
9:15 a.m. - I leave for the photoshoot. The location's over an hour drive away. During the drive I kept wanting to turn around and go home. I have a bum leg, a cold and all I wanted to do was go to bed and stay there forever.
10:30 a.m. - Arrive at the shoot. We did many different shoots. I can't wait to see the pics. I'll share them here once I get them. If you're in the Phoenix area, check out Life Created. She did an amazing job!

12:30 p.m. - Left the photoshoot to meet Kelli for lunch. The shoot was on her side of town, which I'm never on so of course, we had to take advantage and meet. We swapped injury frustrations. She's got a shoulder injury that won't go away. We both agreed that being healthy comes at a cost.
1:30 p.m. - Lunch. I had the salmon salad and fries. It was a high carb day and I wanted them. #intuitiveeating #balance
2:15 p.m. Finished lunch and took selfies. I swear these crutches are going to be a permanent part of my body.
And as you can see, this is how quickly my mood changes. Thank goodness for good friends that can make you laugh even when you're feeling down.
2:30 p.m. - Left for home.
4:00 p.m. - FINALLY home. The guy --> where are you??? Me --> I've been driving 10 miles an hour on the interstate cuz it's fun to drive slow. Phoenix traffic....you suck!!!
5:00 p.m. - Inspected my leg. Here's the story on my leg. Last Monday after I taught spin, my leg was super swollen. It happened out of no where, like my gazillion other injuries. That night I was at the guy's house who's a PT. He looked at it and agreed with my stress fracture history I should get off it and brace it. Hence, the crutches.
This particular spot {left interior tibia/knee} has been tender since my hip surgery. I complained to my PT about it in December. She told me weak glutes and my gait were putting pressure on it. Basically, I'm walking with the front of my legs instead of pushing through my hamstrings and glutes.
Funny thing is I broke my right tibia near my knee two years ago. This is the same exact spot on the opposite leg. I see an orthopedic tomorrow, but I'm 99% sure it's a stress fracture. Maybe even a fracture.
6:00 p.m. - Gimped downstairs on my crutches. Between the cold and my leg, I wasn't hungry but forced myself to eat. I know my body needs to nutrients to repair itself. Mushroom bolognese with spiralized zucchini!
6:30 p.m. - Texted a friend at the gym to cover my spin classes for the weekend so I could rest my leg.
7:00 p.m. The guy came over after work to watch a movie. I told him how frustrated I was with my body. I went an entire year without a stress fracture and how devastating this feels. He listened, but I don't think he or anyone, for that matter, understands the hell I've been through with my body and not getting answers from doctors.
I have weak bones, but this shouldn't happen to someone who eats healthy and does low impact workouts. I'm not even sure why I'm seeing an orthopedic because none of my injuries have ever shown on an x-ray. I guess I'm hopeful one day some health care professional will be curious enough to figure out why this is happening to me.
10:30 p.m.- Defeated. Bed time. The end.
And this is life...

A lot better. I've been on crutches 2 wks, that's how long it took me to get into see the doctor. I know I still need to take it easy though. The cold however I cannot seem to shake!
Emily @ Pizza & Pull-ups says
Sorry about your injury, I can only imagine how hard and frustrating that must be. Your really an inspiration how you have kept at it despite the injuries you have had!
Megan says
Thanks Emily! All you can do is make the best of it.
Joanne says
That was a long day! I am sorry you are still having these issues, and hope you feel a little better over the weekend.
Megan says
Thanks Joanne! I am feeling better this week.

What a day! I get up at 5am to workout as well. I workout in my basement so I don't have to go anywhere. Your mushroom bolognese looks amazing.
Megan says
Good for you! Aren't morning workouts the best?
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West says
I'm so impressed with your wake-up time! The earliest I've ever taught a class or worked out is 5:45 a.m. You're an animal! And nice work modifying to the bike because the pool was closed -- some people would have just gone home. Can't wait to see the new photos! 🙂
Megan says
You know I used to workout at night, but when I started consulting I was forced to switch to the mornings. It's stuck with me!
Kelli @ Hungry Hobby says
Um really, that picture of me. Blogging ju ju is coming back for you... you just wait. Injuries are freaking terrible I hate them.
Megan says
LOL...isn't it bad enough that I shared those horrible pics of me on crutches?
Susie @ Suzlyfe says
A. I can't wait to see the pictures.
B. Don't catastrophize yet (I hope you have gotten good news since then?)
C. I love this guy.
Megan says
I can't wait to see them too and I kind of like him a little. 🙂
Juliette at Namastay Traveling says
Ugh, it stinks that you have to be the one diagnosing yourself and aren't finding a doctor who can support you how you need! Still inspiring that you got in a great workout, when you're lower body won't cooperate, upper body for the win!
Megan says
It's frustrating, but this has forced me to listen to my body and slow down when I know something's not right even when the doctor's are fumbling around.
