WIAW…One Question That Upsets Me

May 18, 2016

One question that upsets me is when a complete stranger asks me why I’m limping. I’ll never understand the intention behind someone who doesn’t know me asking that question. While it may seem innocent to them, it hurts me.

When I tell them I have one leg shorter than the other which I don’t bother to tell them is a result of an injury, they apologize. I’m not sure what they’re apologizing for, but I’m thinking what was the point of asking me that question? Would you ask someone with a disability why they need a wheelchair, a little person why they’re little or someone with cerebral palsey why they’re limping? I’m guessing not so why would you ask me?

It’s hard enough living with a physical limitation much less being reminded about it constantly by strangers. I swear I’m going wear a sign that says “I limp and it’s none of your business why.” Sorry! I had to get that off my chest because five people asked me this yesterday. I feel much better now!

Let’s get on to better things, like seeing what I’ve been eating lately! If you’re new to Skinny Fitalicious, What I Ate Wednesday is a post I do every week showcasing my meals from one day. It’s motivational to see what other people eat in their day and also inspires me to eat balanced and to continue creating more delicious recipes for you!

Not sure if there’s one specific question that upsets me now, but I’ll have to think! That chocolate chip cookie looks so good, love working on cookie recipes 🙂

People are so weird. That’s like asking someone why they have a lazy eye. There are plenty of questions that bother me, but I think the statement that bothers me most is when someone implies that I am lucky enough to be very petite. If they only knew why.

Anything medical or relationship related should be off limits by strangers.

Wow, I can totally see how that would upset you. I would NEVER ask a stranger that. Who the heck does that! All your food looks delicious!!!

I think they’re concerned that I twisted my ankle or something, but even if I did what would they do? Are they going to take me to the doctor or get me some crutches? It’s just bizarre that people feel the need to ask.

Haha wtf I would never do that. That’s like those people who ask when you’re expecting and you’re not even pregnant. Smooth, guys, real smooth.

Another one is when people ask me why I’m not married like I somehow chose to not meet the right man and get married.

Thanks Emily! The only cure is surgery and I’m certain God won’t reverse that.

People just lack sensitivity. I understand being curious, but that doesn’t entitle anyone to asking anyone else (especially a stranger!!!) about any physical condition that they may notice. Manners people!
You have me craving cookies now! Looking forward to that recipe.

The typical one would be “why don’t you have kids?”! And also some health and ulcerative colitis related questions…I just try to stay polite and not take it the wrong way but it’s not always easy! Mmmmh cookies

Oh yeassss, I bet the kid one is annoying! I get asked all the time why I’m not married as if somehow I chose to never find the right man. Part of me is happy being unmarried because otherwise I would get the kid question. It just never ends!

It bigs me when people ask me my weight or how much I eat. Right now yes I’m underweight but behind the scenes they have no idea how much food I’m shovelling back and the demons I’m facing to eat all that food just to gain a lil bit. Sometimes people just have to stop before they speak and wonder maybe that person is doing things that I can’t see. After all, they just saw 5 seconds of me and my life so they shouldn’t judge my lifestyle based on that.
