I love going to the grocery store. It's my favorite place to be. There I said it. Hello, my name is Megan and I love hanging out at grocery stores stalking food.
Not just any old grocery store. Actually, I can't remember the last time I was at a real grocery store. Since I moved to Arizona in 2003, I've been blessed with having a healthy food market near me. Sprouts, Trader Joe's and Whole Foods are my food havens! I don't know how people get by without them.
The guy thinks I'm a weirdo because I like to hang out at food stores inspecting food. This is coming from someone who loves to shop at Walmart. Every time he tells me that I remind him how I almost got abducted there.

So yes, I may be weird but when I experienced problems with my hormones a few years ago I started realizing what I put in my body was so much more than calories. The quality of foods play an important role in health. As I get older I start to have a greater appreciation for this as my body changes.
Now I inspect food a lot more to ensure I'm fueling my body with quality ingredients. A true test of this came when I tried to find a clean BBQ Sauce.
I literally stood in Sprouts one morning going through every bottle of BBQ sauce. The second ingredient in every one was sugar. If you've taken Master Your Cravings, you know this isn't good.
I was baffled that every BBQ sauce was drowning in sugar. I guess that is the trend in our food so I shouldn't be surprised. I'm not anti sugar by any means, but I do like to control the amount of sugar I put in my body. I feel a lot better when I eat less of it, which is why I created a Low Sugar BBQ Sauce. And I guarantee you'll love this one too!
Low Sugar BBQ Sauce
It's sweet, tangy, spicy. Everything you need in a BBQ sans the buckets of sugar! Even better, it's a breeze to make. Just toss the ingredients in a pan, simmer together then store in a glass jar in the refrigerator until you're ready to drizzle it on the goods.
Perfect for summer salads, grilling, and in my case, crockpot using when it's a thousand degrees out or topping BBQ chicken, salads, sandwiches, making wings. The options are really endless with what you can do with BBQ sauce. Honestly, I toss it on anything that's slightly flavorless to give it a punch of flavor.

Is there a way to make it less spicy I am going to make it tonight with the crockpot chicken?
Megan says
The sauce is not spicy. Hope you enjoy it!
Carol says
Hi this sounds great but is it really 3g of sodium? The ingredients don't look like they would have that much.
Megan says
Yes, from the Worcestershire sauce.

Love this! The adjust as needed under sugar section of BBQ may be a problem for me because I'd adjust times 15... I LOVE super sweet barbecue. I kind of know that though so I just make it my carb for the meal and skip the bread or other carbs... #tradoffs
Megan says
Haha! #sugarbomb I actually am so sensitive to sugar now I can't deal with it.
Blair says
Isn't it crazy how much sugar is in store-bought BBQ sauce? I love the idea of making my own, and this looks like a perfect option!
Megan says
Oh my goodness, it really is and BBQ sauce isn't the only thing!
Susie @ Suzlyfe says
I LOVE BBQ sauce, ut I go for the less sickly sweet versions. I love the Trader Joes Carolina mustard, but they stopped making it. I need to try it myself!
Megan says
Ewww I want to try that! TJ's always has the best stuff.

BBQ sauce is b far my favorite condiment! As a vegetarian, I don't get to eat it as much as I like since it's usually not something I can order out and it's filled with sugar. I've never even though to make my own!! Bookmarking this immediately and having it ready for summer bbqs coming up.
Megan says
Hope you get to make it!

I am allergic to coconut, wondering if I can switch the coconut sugar for Stevia or swerve or some other item, honey maybe?
Megan says
I'm sure any sugar would work here.
