Are you a cardio bunny? Do you do hours of cardio and never lose weight? Do you have stomach fat despite doing hours of cardio? Listen up!
There's difference between burning calories and burning fat and too much steady state cardio can do that. If you're not getting the results you want, watch the video to find out why!
Is your workout good for your diet?
Things you can do:
- Do less steady state cardio. Too much steady state cardio breaks down muscle and increases hunger.
- Go on long walks. Long walks keeps the body in a reduced stress state and burns more fat.
- Add resistance training to add lean muscle tissue. Lean muscle tissue increases metabolism which means you can eat more and burn more fat at the same time.
- Vary what you do, how much you eat and what you eat to keep your body guessing.
Remember, you can never work off a bad diet. Diet is king when it comes to changing your body, how you feel or improving fitness.
In fact, I recommend most clients start by only focusing on what they eat and not working out when they are just beginning a new healthy routine.
One client of mine lost 20 pounds with Hashimoto's disease, and she didn't start walking until after she lost the 20 pounds. You can read her full testimonial here:

long walks do wonders! I rarely do cardio anymore. Unless it's short 15 minute hiit. That being said, there was a time I didn't do any. It was needed.

It's a balance although I kind of don't like that word. I teach cycle so I get plenty of cardio, but I do try to focus my classes more on strength than endurance building.
