Over the summer, I was given the opportunity to experience HYPOXI for weight loss. At first, I was hesitant to do it because as many of you know, I don’t believe in diets or quick fixes when it comes to weight loss.
After reading more about it online, I decided to do it and the opportunity could not have come at a better time. I had just regained most my strength from the car accident and my lower body was, well was struggling to get back to where it was before the accident.
The truth is despite working out daily and watching my diet with a fine tooth comb, I’ve struggled so much losing weight since my battle with estrogen last year. The birth control pill I was prescribed (which I took myself off two months later) resulted in my stomach, hips and thighs retaining fat and being constantly bloated. Nothing I did made a difference. I didn’t feel like it was my body anymore.
So when HYPOXI reached out to me, I was willing to try.
What is HYPOXI?
HYPOXI is a 30-minute, low impact exercise that combines vacuum compression and workout. HYPOXI for weight loss combines vacuum compression to stimulate fat burning in stubborn areas along with physical activity. The idea with vacuum compression is to improve blood circulation in problem areas. Many times certain areas will not burn fat as readily as others because blood circulation into them is poor.

How do you do HYPOXI?
HYPOXI can be done in a variety of ways. Either laying down bike, a seated bike, or walking on a treadmill. You choose the method that works for you.
On the bikes, you’re sealed into a pod which does the vacuum compression while you workout. The vacuum compression provides added resistance so you have to work a bit harder. For the treadmill, you wear what looks like a wet suit that does the vacuum compression within the suit while you walk.
I did both bikes. Ultimately, I preferred the seated biked over the laying down one because my legs kept falling asleep in the laying down bike (your legs are angled above your body).
All the exercises are very low impact. In fact, the ladies would tell me to slow down occasionally because I was “so fit” they would say. I was able to do my 30 minute workout while reading a book or answering emails. It’s definitely a workout anyone can do. No excuses not to workout with HYPOXI!
Another technology HYPOXI offers is dermology. This machine aids in reducing cellulite, puffy skin, uneven skin tones and helps to improve circulation as well. For the dermology, you’re put into a massive space suit with suction on the inside on the stomach, hips, back and thighs . The suit is hooked up to a machine, filled with air and does vacuum compression for 20-minutes while you lay down.
This is something you can do prior to the 30-minute workout and is optional add-on with the treatment. I did the dermaology before my workouts to get the maximum benefits.
Honestly, the dermology was my favorite part. It was relaxing like getting a mini massage, and my legs always felt incredible afterwards.
Where is HYPOXI?
HYPOXI was originally developed in Europe and is now headquartered in Australia. It wasn’t until within the last few years that HYPOXI has become available in the U.S with two studios in Arizona – one in Scottsdale and one in Phoenix.
I went to the studio in Phoenix which is located in the Biltmore Fashion Park Mall. The studio itself is bright, vibrant and clean. The staff is extremely friendly. In fact, I felt like I was visiting my girlfriends every week when I was there. By the time I was done with my sessions, they knew a lot about me!

What to Expect on Your First Visit
On your first visit, they will take measurements, weigh you, go over the program plan with you and have you try different equipment. You’ll need to wear shorts and sports bras for the workouts (no yoga pants). They will also provide you with a nutrition plan to follow.
How Long Are Treatments?
HYPOXI offers different packages and sessions. They recommend twelve sessions with a couple scheduled each week for best results. I did eleven that I spread mine out over three months. The location was too far from my house so once a week was all I could fit into my schedule. Your first session is free so you can always try it and see if it’s something you want to invest in!
My Results
At my last session, they took my measurements again and to my surprise I lost a total of two inches in my stomach, hips, legs and butt. I don’t know how much weight I lost because I don’t weigh myself, but my clothes fit better and I dropped a pant size. Now, I can’t be 100% sure my results were directly related to HYPOXI.
At the time I started HYPOXI, I started carb cycling and doing cardio which I know from experience results in weight loss for me. I did not follow their recommended nutrition plan. There were things on it I could not eat with my thyroid issues so I ate what I normally would eat.
Having said that, I do believe HYPOXI gave my body that extra nudge it needed to move in the right direction to lose those inches.

My Thoughts
I view HYPOXI for weight loss as a way to jump-start weight loss. It’s an easy, low impact workout, something anyone can do regardless of their fitness level. The cost is on the higher side, but you are getting a quality treatment with one-on-one supervision. Think of it as concierge personal training!
As with any diet or weight loss program, there is no miracle pill. Weight loss is about what you eat. For best results with any program, you need to consume a nutritionally balanced diet that falls below your energy requirements. Translation, you can’t eat McDonald’s and expect HYPOXI to work for you.
Overall I loved the atmosphere of the HYPOXI Phoenix studio. The people were incredibly nice and helpful. I would definitely do it again!

Do you think some of this is temporary like the sweat it out type things but it is just water weight?
Well, you don’t sweat very much or work all that hard so I don’t think it’s water weight. Like I said, I started carb cycling and doing a lot more cardio so I truly think my change came from that and Hypoxi helped along the way.
So interesting! I like that they have you working out too…it’s not just some quick fix while you sit there. 🙂 And good for you for losing some of the weight that you didn’t want — that’s no easy feat, no matter how you do it!
It was an interesting process & I liked how much better my legs felt after I did the session. The weight loss was definitely a bonus!
