Happy Happy Friday!
Hope you guys had a great New Years week. <3 Mom and I did a little shopping yesterday at our favorite store and I’m happy to report we survived and so did our checkbooks. I met my Mom there after the gym and I only have two words -> holly crazy. I bought two things and left. Mom shopped all day. I have no idea how. I couldn’t take the crowds. After an hour I was done and to be perfectly honest, I didn’t need anything that bad so I went home, kicked back, made muffins and a little apple cider to warm me up.
Today I want to share with you my little cider. It will warm you up and naturally detox you from your holiday festivities, shopping extravaganza, cookie overdose or party hangover. Whatever your poison may be. My Mom has a tradition of making hot apple cider on the stovetop during the winter. I could never understand why she made it or how she could even like it. Up until a few months ago, I couldn’t stand the thought of drinking apple cider vinegar. Yuk. Then I started drinking it after I started seeing Dr. Bob to help with my digestive issues.
Apple cider vinegar is tremendously good for the body. I actually have a post I’m planning to get to you guys in January with more details on it. Dr. Bob suggested I drink ACV daily with my meals to help aid with my digestion. I can’t even begin to explain to you how much improvement I’ve had. I basically have no bloating anymore (unless I eat too many muffins…lol) and I can eat grains and beans again in moderation without looking like a pregnant lady. Now don’t go drinking apple cider straight up. It is something you have to build up to. Believe me. You won’t be able to tolerate it. It has to be diluted with water or something else. Over time, you’ll build up tolerance and then can start adding more.
Since I’ve been loving on apple cider vinegar, I asked my Mom for her recipe and sharing it with you guys today. Now you can buy the packets of hot apple cider vinegar mix at the grocery store if you’re short on time, but honestly I’m not in love with the ingredients in those. You can easily do this homemade version on the stove with just a few simple ingredients. I added a fresh orange and apple to Mom’s recipe and it was delicious! I also added some Reddi-wip on top with lots of cinnamon on top. One tip for you guys. Be sure to buy unfiltered apple cider vinegar. It’s much better for you. Organic is always best too if you can swing it.
Well today I’m off to the gym then Sur La Table for a cooking class with my Mom. Usually their classes are a bit pricey, but i got a smoking deal the day after Christmas when they were 50% off. I’m giddy with excitement! I may even have to stop at Whole Foods on the way home because it is on the way. Have a great weekend!
