Welcome to the Get-Fit 2015 Gift Guide! Do you someone who wants to get in shape in the new year? I have the perfect gift ideas for you! Whether it’s a stocking stuffer, a gift exchange or beautifully wrapped present under the tree, the gift of health is always a great gift. Here you will discover 10 gifts anyone can afford and everyone will love. Gifts of health you can share not only during the holidays, but year round too!
Fitness trackers are one of the best motivation tools. They track your daily steps and activity to encourage you to move more throughout the day. Some even monitor sleep, water intake and calorie expenditure. Most fitness trackers integrate with food tracking apps such as My Fitness Pal and Lose It and will calculate calorie burn for you. A number of fitness trackers are available on the market, but the two I like best are Jawbone and Fitbit. This is a great gift for someone want to get more active in the new year!
Fitness Watch with Heart Rate Monitor
With all the hype around activity trackers, the importance of using a heart rate monitor has been forgotten about. Heart rate monitors are important for measuring heart rate during exercise aka how hard you are working. Cardio is meant to work your cardiovascular system. A heart rate monitor checks that you’re working within your recommended zone. Heart rate monitors are great for beginners who may not know how hard they should be working or how much is too much. Heart rate monitors are also the most accurate tool for measuring calorie burn so for someone wanting to drop a few pounds in the new year this is a great tool to keep them on track. I love my Polar fitness watch with hear rate monitor. It’s easy to setup and simple to use!
Never again shall you listen to the annoying guy on the elliptical next to you huffing and puffing with a good pair of earphones. There are a multitude of headphones on the market and while you can buy a decent pair at a low price, I will tell you this is something worth spending more money on. The cheaper ones stop working a few months after buying them because sweat ruins them (even though they are advertised as sweat proof) and if they don’t fail, the sound is faint and you hearing everyone around you. Trust me, I’ve gone through a fair amount of headphones and have tested and tried them all. If you’re looking for a gift, I highly recommend Jaybird sport earbuds (that’s what I use and love). But if you’re looking for something more budget friendly, then these earbuds are good option too.
Especially important for first time gym goers are a pair of weightlifting gloves. Gloves prevent slippage and are particularly helpful in stabilizing the hands through movements so you learn proper form. They also protect the hands from getting nasty callous. For a beginner, I recommend a basic weightlifting glove and for someone more advanced I recommend weightlifting wrist wraps with hand grips which is what I use.
A drawstring bag is perfect for totting around a towel, water, phone, weight lifting gloves and other gym toys like sliders, resistance bands and straps. I have this exact one and you’ll never find me in the gym without it. This is a very reasonably priced gift for someone planning to begin a workout routine and one, that most people don’t realize they need until they’ve had a few visits to the gym.
Never underestimate the power of words. Let’s face it, it can be easy to fall off the wagon. Sometimes all that’s needed to re-energize and motivate someone to workout and stick to their health goals. I love these shirts with Swarovski crystals by Chewylou Designs™. A little bling never hurts!
Class Pass is a monthly membership granting access to a variety of fitness classes. In all transparency, I have not personally used Class Pass. because there offer no studies in my area, however, I know several bloggers who have sworn by its awesomeness. This is a great gift for someone who’s starting out and doesn’t have a fitness love. Class Pass provides them the opportunity to try many types of fitness so they can find their fitspiration before committing to one studio or club. This is also a nice gift for the fitness lover who’s always up for trying something new.
Thermos Water Bottle With Smart Lid
This innovative Thermos Water Bottle with Smart Lid tracks your daily water intake via a bluetooth enabled app and gives friendly reminders throughout the day when you’re not drinking enough. This smart bottle is made for anyone who wants to get healthier in the new year or just wanting to stay better hydrated.
Food & Exercise Journal
To track progress with meeting health goals, this handy food and exercise journal is a great visible tool for the person who is less techie or who likes to see progress to their goals written down. I like to use one to see my progression in my weight training. A journal is a great way to stay accountable to goals and monitor progress.
