Hey, Hey, Hey, Happy Friday! I am the happiest girl this week.
Apparently quitting your job, really does make you happy. Monday was my last day. I didn’t start my new job this week. My drug test hadn’t come back for the new one and the background check was still in progress. Everything was up in the air. I couldn’t plan for the week and had a few personal things to schedule. Being that I’ve had a ton of stress this year (can you tell by the wrinkles on my face?) & that I’m a total control freak, I told them I would start next Monday. I feel bad being away from work so long, but I needed time. I’m sure not everyone will understand that. I am thankful for the downtime. It’s probably the last I will get for really long time.
Having the week off, gave me real time to focus on my workouts & health. Recovering from injury takes time and focus. I feel like a monkey and elephant all at the same time. Make sense? Probably not. Let me try not to explain that. But I will explain one thing I love doing to strengthen my back, booty and love handles. The reverse hyperextension aka Superman.
You use a reverse hyperextension machine backwards. Your head faces the floor, arms brace the foot rest with machine adjusted at hip level, then you lift your legs up and down keeping the core and booty tight. It’s a killer. I will tell you if you don’t like to show off or grab the boys attention at the gym, you may not want to try this. It’s an attention getter! I got over men staring at me a long time ago. I just do my thing.
Most gyms have a reverse hyperextension, but if you’re doesn’t then you can do it with a balance or stability ball. These work just as well. You’ll also attract less attention.
After today’s workout, I’m road tripping to Tucson to hang with Jaime and some of our friends. It’s a two hour drive from where I live in Phoenix. I’m so glad I whipped up some healthy homemade snacks for the road so I won’t starve in the middle of the desert. There literally is nothing except desert between Tucson and Phoenix. Thankfully, I will have healthy trail mix on hand in case I get stranded so I won’t have to eat a cactus.
Sometimes I buy trail mix at the store, but it can be pricey and I don’t love that almost every one of them contain peanuts. Peanuts really don’t have any nutritional value. I love nuts, but peanuts I could live without. A lot of times, I buy trail mix ingredients separately in bulk and mix my own at home. Easy peasy.
This mix is not so strange, but it is good and my favorite. The cool thing about trail mix is you just toss it together and you have a healthy little snack. You can get creative and make your own thing too depending on what you like. This is what works best for me and meant to inspire you to make your own. These particular ingredients have antioxidants that I am much in need of right now. Get creative and give it a whirl!
- 1 cup raw almonds
- 1 cup raw cashews
- 1 cup raw almonds
- 1 cup craisins
- 1 cup dark chocolate bits (I used Enjoy Life brand)
- Add nuts to container or plastic bag
What’s your favorite trail mix ingredients and brand? What exercise do you catch people staring at you doing?
