A thick and creamy green smoothie made with spinach for iron, berries for sweetness with antioxidants and quinoa for a protein punch.
Hello Friends! Hello Friday!
Remember I said how much I’ve been missing my friends? Today I’m heading to Tucson for the weekend to see them! It actually worked out that I have a funeral to go to tomorrow which gave me the excuse I was looking for to head back to my old stomping ground. Unfortunately my friend’s brother passed away unexpectedly a few weeks ago. He was only in his mid forties. Very sad. But on the bright side, I’ll be able to catch up with old friends this weekend even if it’s not on the happiest of terms. I’ve been missing them a lot and haven’t seen them in nearly 2 years due to my battles with injury. I’ve been feeling secluded and alone in Phoenix. It’s such a big place and difficult to meet people.
I lived in Tucson 10 years before moving to Phoenix. Sometimes I miss it, sometimes I don’t. I definitely miss less traffic. I sort of miss my old house. I’m not sure why. It was my first house and think for that reason it will always have a special place in my heart. The house I live in now is beautiful and perfect, but my neighbors are mean. Two women live next door and they’re so rude and inconsiderate. As I’m typing this post, they’re blasting their music like a bunch of teenagers and it’s 8 a.m. The houses are so close together you really need to be aware of how loud you are for your neighbors sake and they just couldn’t care less. I tried to talk to them once about their dog barking. I was in the hospital for my foot and hadn’t slept in several nights. Their dog was barking none stop. I finally went over to speak with them one night. They wouldn’t answer their door and when I returned home blasted their rap music. They were outraged when they received my complaint from the HOA and blasted nasty notes about me on our community Facebook page. I tried to speak to you, but you wouldn’t let me was my only response. Seriously who does these things as adults?
I can’t say I had better luck with my neighbors in Tucson. I once had a lady follow me home from a walk and accuse me of calling her “white trash” when I walked by her home. Anyone who knows me, knows I would never do that. Thankfully another neighbor who knew me intervened and stopped the crazy lady from beating me up. I felt like telling her that what she was doing in that moment made her white trash, but I refrained. As much as I wanted to be right, it wasn’t worth it.
One thing I’m on the fence about is whether or not I want to drive by my old house. In some ways, I feel like ever since I packed up and moved to Phoenix, my life went in the toilet. I mean yes, some good things have happened, but a lot of bad things have happened since I left. I wonder if seeing my old house will be too emotional or perhaps, it will bring closure and finally make things right. I guess I’ll see how I feel when I get there.
One good thing about going to Tucson is it’s always 10 degrees cooler than Phoenix. I’m sure to those of you outside Arizona that seems silly, but it makes a huge difference when the temps are in the triple digits. Last weekend the heat really turned up and all I wanted to do was lay around eating ice cream and smoothies and take ice baths. Okay I don’t really take ice baths, but I surely thought about it. For the rest of you getting your summer on, you’ll enjoy this nutrient packed smoothie. This is my everyday go to smoothie. It’s simple to make and I always have the ingredients on-hand. I like adding quinoa flakes for extra protein and texture. You can add oats instead and you’ll get the same texture just without the protein. Either way it’s simply delicious. Let me know if you give it a whirl!
