I look forward to Monday because Monday’s are like reset and I’m secretly hoping my life will get one soon. Ever since last year, my life has been so goofy. I’ve never had so many things be dumped on me at one time and at the strangest times too. Sometimes I have no idea if it’s mine is mine and if I’m really living it. Remember I said my life is like a Seinfeld episode.
Last week a friend told me I need a degaussing. Um…please excuse me while I Google that for a minute. In a nutshell, a ship is a floating magnet and as it floats around the sea the Earth’s magnetic force can alter it’s magnetic field that helps it stay on course while it’s at sea. When ships come back from sea, they go through degaussing to reset their magnetic field. I’m pretty sure after what happened to me last week and this past year, I need a degaussing. Here’s the story. I was on my way home from work one night when….
…my transmission stopped working on the interstate. I was in Phoenix rush hour traffic, stopping and going, stopping and going. Crawling home. At one stop, I hit the gas and the car would barely go. It eventually sped up, but it was a s-l-o-w acceleration. The engine light came on and the computer was screamed that a gearbox was in failure. Eerily I knew what happening. When I was a teenager, my Mom’s transmission went out on me and eventually blew in a ball of smoke. My Dad of course blamed it on me, but the car was just really old. Fast forward 20 years and my car felt the exact same way and is probably just as old as my Mom’s was.
Now in all fairness to my car, I’m due for a new one. Mine’s 11 years old with 99,000 miles. It’s a SAAB and SAAB’s last forever. I was hoping to run mine 125k miles before replacing it, but now that’s dying a slow death I’m thinking it’s time to look. Up until this year, I’ve have zero issues or major repairs with it. It’s been the best car of my life and I have major separation issues with it. I mean it’s not like I can buy another one. SAAB went out of business. I have no idea what I want and the worst thing ever is test driving a car with a slimy salesman hovering over you. Gross. But I digress. This wasn’t good.
I was far from home, in the middle of rush hour traffic & on the interstate. I worried if I stopped, I wouldn’t get it going again plus a tow at that time of day would take forever. I called my service advisor to ask if I could drop it off before they closed. They were only open 20 more minutes so my window was tight.
The entire time I held my breath my car wouldn’t stall on me. It was the longest drive of my life. I had just one intersection to get to the dealership and thankfully my car crawled through the intersection without stalling. I made it to the dealership safely and just minutes before they closed. Thank GOD for cell phones. How did I ever survive without one? After dropping my car, getting a loaner and breathing a huge sigh of relief, I was on my way home. Disaster avoided!
When I opened the garage door, I knew something was wrong. Things were on the garage floor that are normally up high. When I went inside, I saw spotlights broken into pieces scattered over the patio. Then it dawned on me someone was trying to break into my house. After inspecting the windows & doors, I was able to put the scenario together. They first tried to get in through the garage, which is why things were on the ground. Instead they climbed the fence into the yard. For some reason, they didn’t break the windows to get in but I’m sure glad they didn’t. Needless to say I was still freaked out by the attempt and we all know why break-in’s freak me out. That night I slept with all the lights on. Truthfully, I didn’t sleep a wink.
So I’m convinced…I need a degaussing. My magnetic force is off balance. For the next blog post, you may want to grab the skinny girl margarita with the chips and this spicy & fresh blender salsa because you just never know what you’re gonna get with me. Happy cinco de mayo tomorrow!
