Eat Regularly
After a heavy day of eating, it can be tempting to skip meals or not eat to "make up" for eating more than usual. However, skipping meals actually causes the body to shift into preservation mode. Instead of burning fat, it holds onto it and your metabolism slows down. Quite the opposite of what you would expect. Eating as you normally would with a focus on protein and vegetable dense meals. This will keep your metabolism humming along. Our bodies love consistency so after it’s been thrown out of whack, regularity can go a long way in restoring balance.
Work It Out
Take some time to sweat it out the day after Thanksgiving and no, black Friday shopping doesn't count as a workout! Not only will the workout keep your metabolism working in full force to burn those extra calories, it will also make you feel more energized after a heavy day of eating and get you ready to take on those crazy black Friday shoppers. 😉
Hydrate
Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated during and after the holiday. Foods high in starch and sugar make you retain a lot of water, and water makes your body rehydrate and get rid of excess water. H20 helps to naturally curb appetite. Drinking more of it flushes excess sodium helping you de-bloat and getting your digestive system moving.
Speaking of hydrating, I'm setting new goals for myself. During the winter, I find it hard remembering to hydrate because I'm not sweating my face off like the rest of the year. Although I make a conscious effort to carry my water bottle with me everywhere, I still find it hard to get enough water in the colder months. This holiday I'm setting new #HydrationGoals with Thermos® Connected Hydration Bottle with Smart Lid.
Thermos® Connected Hydration Bottle is a bluetooth enabled water bottle that syncs with the Thermos Smart Lid app providing automatic, real-time tracking. It gives you a goal of how much you need to drink that day, which you setup in your profile. The amount of water you need depends on your age, gender, height, weight and how active you are. The more active you are, the more H20 you need! In my case, my goal is 123 ounces.
The bottle has a Smart Lid that tracks everything for you. After you download the app to your smartphone (Thermos® Connected Hydration Bottle works with iPhone, iPad, iPad mini or iPod touch) and charge the battery via USB, the app begins measuring how much water you drink. Being a techie, I love the USB charger. I already have too may chargers for every other gadget I own. This is genius!
Throughout the day the app shows you how much water you've drank compared to your goal. It breaks it down for you so you can see the times you're drinking more vs. less. It's really interesting! The app also gives you friendly reminders to drink more water when you're not on track to meet your daily goal. I need that!
What I love most about the Thermos® Connected Hydration Bottle is its integration with the Fitbit app. I wear my FitBit to track daily activity. It's an old school one, but it works! The Thermos Smart Lid app automatically syncs the water it registers you drinking with your Fitbit app. That means I can see everything in one place instead of going to a zillion apps. Winning!
Thermos® Connected Hydration Bottle is perfect for busy people on-the-go, people who need to up their water intake or those like me who forget to drink enough water during the winter. I personally think it's pretty innovative! I'll be using mine to help me stay on track with my #HydrationGoals this winter. Be sure to visit Thermos® on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for more hydration inspiration!

Those are some awesome tips to help get back on track! After the holidays, I always sport a turkey baby for a week or so until I can get back down to my normal size! Thanks for the tips 🙂
Megan says
Haha turkey baby...love that! Extra water will certainly help with the baby. 😉

Hydration is super important after Thanksgiving. I work at an adult hospital where after the holidays we get super busy with patient with shortness of breath because their salt intake increased, they flooded their lungs and they are having to be placed on breathing devices to help. So I know first hand how important it is to stay hydrated.
Megan says
So true Daisy! We are learning its importance too after Mom's heart surgery that if she becomes too dehydrated (which happens a lot when she's in AZ from the dryness) her blood pressure gets out of whack. I actually think she needs one of these bottles more than me.

It was so cold this morning (46 degrees) & the app kept reminding me to drink which is good otherwise I would have gone all morning not drinking anything but coffee.
